TASK 1

  • Identify the different types of sub-contractors/suppliers on your site
  • What are the differences, if any, between the two?
  • Review the Wates Family Enterprise Trust website: www.wfet.org.uk
  • What is the function of the Trust?
  • Why is it important that the Trust is distinct from the Wates Group?
  • What types of funding award themes are available to communities via Wates Group employees?
  • Identify a local charity or social enterprise that would benefit from Group Grant funding. Liaise with the local Social Value team to pull together a suggested entry for the next Group Grants Panel. 

 

OUTPUT

Discussion with the site team and with the Social Value team – Propose Group Grant application.

TASK 2

Review the Guiding Framework and Code of Conduct then watch the videos. 

Please answer the following questions while reviewing; 

  • Why are Business Values important in an organisation? 
  • What are Wates Values (Goals, Behaviours, and Purpose) ?
  • Why are they important to Wates as a whole?  
  • Identify 3-5 risks a business may face if operating in an unethical and non-transparent way?

TASK 3

  • What is CSR? (ask a colleague or search the internet)
  • What is Wates’ approach to Social Value and how does this differ from CSR? (*think impact)
  • Review Wates Social Value strategy;
  • Provide an overview of the Social Value being delivered on your contract – what is the approach, who is responsible and how is it being measured on your project?
  • Take part in a Social Value activity to support the delivery of a project KPI  
  • Organise a catch-up with the Social Value Champion on-site. What is their role and what are their requirements for delivering/recording Social Value? 

POINTS TO CONSIDER

Site manager to arrange an introduction to Social Value manager / Advisor and Social value champion. Site supervisor to arrange with the Social Value team a task student can get involved in and to support completion of Volunteering form.

OUTPUT

Short interview with Social Value Manager / Advisor and Social Value Champion, Complete a volunteering form once you have supported a social value activity on your site.

TASK 4

  • How do we measure progress on site and what different aspects of success must be considered? 
  • What does KPI stand for? 
  • What are the KPIs of your project?  
  • How do they impact the day-to-day workings on site? 
  • Review 5 measurements and outline the importance of achievement and the impact this can have on different relations (client/local people/subcontractors/suppliers) if they are achieved/missed
